133: February 2010 Forum on HumanTrafficking
St. Boniface Episcopal Church, Sarasota
About 600,000 to 800,000 people—mostly women and children—are trafficked across borders annually. And that number does not count millions trafficked within their own countries. Human trafficking is a multi-dimensional threat; it deprives people of their human rights and freedoms; it is a global health risk; and it fuels the growth of organized crime. The Peace and Justice Committee will offer a Forum on Human Trafficking at Saint Boniface, Saturday, February 6, 2010, and we urge you to begin raising your awareness now and join us in the policies of the Episcopal Church which have committed to recognize the problem of and support efforts to stop trafficking of women, girls, and boys.
The Forum is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (check-in begins at 9:30) in the Boniface Community Center. $15 per person covers program, lunch and beverages. Featured speakers will be Nola Theiss, Director of the Human Trafficking Network, George Koder of the Clearwater Task Force on Human Trafficking, and Jordon Buckley of Interfaith Action of Southwest Florida.
